Le Manguier is an ex-tug of the French National Navy. It was refitted as an alternative energy ship, trying to find solutions to reduce CO2 emissions on working boats. Le Manguier is equipped with masts and sails, solar panels and solar captors. The reduction of CO2 emissions is a priority in the fight against ocean acidification. From April to October 2009, Le Manguier rallied from Corsica (France) to Sand Point (Alaska) by the Northern Sea Route in Russia. Thus Le Manguier became the 4th foreign ship in the world to complete the Northern Sea Route in one season and without assistance from an icebreaker. Thanks to its characteristics, Le Manguier is well adapted to serve as a base for various types of studies, whether scientific, cinematographic, cultural or sports like. The ship is presently moored in Kodiak, Alaska.
