> Description of the project

To equip Le Manguier as an experimental boat, with the most advanced technologies in the field of renewable energies.

- Mixed propulsion sail/engine in partnership with AvelVor Technologies, to reduce consumption on the main engine. see a photo of project>>

- Solar panels, windmills, solar heaters to reduce generators consumption.

- Bilge filters, to reduce polluting products emission.

Measurable indicators will be implemented to attest the results (number of miles covered, number of engine hours, number of generators hours…)

They could be compared with the very precise work of follow up done while sailing (weather, period of sunshine, wind speed, sea condition, etc.

To use Le Manguier as a test centre of alternative energies so as to test them under extreme conditions.

Le Manguier will sail on May 2009 for an exceptional expedition, following the Russian Arctic Strait, a maritime route off the North of Siberia, connecting the Atlantic to the Pacific.

This route, almost exclusively used by Russian ships, is one of the most difficult sailing route and this, despite global warming which reduces the ice floe year after year.

So far, only 5 foreign pleasure-boats have succeeded the crossing in summer. By testing and using the shipped equipment in particularly difficult conditions, the project will show all the more their reliability and efficiency.

To use Le Manguier as a show-case for alternative energies

Unfortunately, these technologies and energies are not yet well known.  The project will allow to promote them thanks to the important communication done about the Expedition which media fallout will be important.
